Naval Academy weddings are all unique, but there are certain fantastic traditions that seem to come up whenever I photograph a navy wedding!
This wedding took place in the USNA chapel, where the bride and groom exchanged vows in one of the most famous locations in Annapolis, Maryland! The groom wore his dress whites, and they coordinated with both military and non military groomsmen!
Upon exit, they had the traditional sword arch exit that many military couples incorporate into their special ceremony exit.
After the ceremony, we took some time for portraits around the Naval Academy with the bride and groom. We also spent some time with their families to ensure we had beautiful posed portraits!
The reception for this Naval Academy wedding took place at Navy Stadium, or formally, US Navy-Marine Corps Memorial stadium. This particular moment happened during the dancing.
The groom and his friends gathered to sing a song to the bride, in line with Navy tradition. As you might expect, it's something they may have picked up from Top Gun! The song is "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" and although the words don't quite fit a wedding day, the tradition endures (and usually the crowd joins in!)
After the serenade, dancing continued into the evening and the reception concluded with a fun sparkler exit outside Navy Stadium!
